Enquiries and admissions

Private patients

Your surgeon will provide you with an admission and request for admission form. Upon completion of the admission form you may bring both forms to the main reception where you will have a private interview with our booking officer and be given an estimate of costs if applicable. Alternatively you may mail these forms to our booking officer who will return your estimate by mail. You will be advised by your doctor of your operation date, however a staff member will call you to confirm this date, provide you with details of presurgical procedures (eg fasting) and to answer any questions you may have about your stay in hospital.

Public patients

Your surgeon will provide you with admission forms. Upon completion of these forms you may mail, fax or bring them to the main reception. You will be placed on a waiting list and given a provisional admission date unless otherwise stipulated by the surgeon. A staff member will call and advise you of your admission date, provide you with details of admission date, provide you with details of pre-surgical procedure (eg fasting) and will answer any questions you may have about your stay in hospital.

Admission times

Admission times for same day surgery are between 6:30am and 12:30pm. Admission time for next day surgery is approximately 2:30pm. Medical and emergency admissions can be at any time on the advise of the doctor.

Departure times

Discharge times are usually 10:00am and at the discretion of your doctor. Please ensure your carer will be available to escort you home at this time.

Settling your account

Accomodation and theatre accounts are forwarded directly to your health fund by the hospital. If you do not have full cover you will be required to pay the gap and/or excess at the time of admission. Accounts for pathology and radiology will be sent to you separately by Douglass Hanly Moir and Ultrascan respectively. Uninsured private patients are required to pay their account two days prior to admission.

What to bring with you

  • All medications currently being taken and relevant X-rays.

  • A night gown or pyjamas, dressing gown, slippers, personal toiletries and tissues. Day surgery patients will be provided with a dressing gown.

  • A small amount of money for telephone calls, snacks, magazines, etc, a favourite book and if appropriate a favourite toy.

Please leave all valuable items and cash at home or give them to the cashier for storage in the safe.
