Welcome to Hawkesbury District Health Service (HDHS)

HDHS provides comprehensive healthcare services to our community with excellence and compassion.

Unique Service Integration -  HDHS is two hospitals under one roof—a Private Hospital which also has a contract to provide public patient services. Emergency Department, extensive Community Health Care Services, Transitional Aged Care Services, Diagnostic and After Hours GP services are all available at HDHS. This makes HDHS a true Health Service, enabling HDHS to provide a continuum of care for our patients from home to hospital and back home again.

Excellence & Innovation - As a Teaching Hospital of the University of Notre Dame, our focus is on excellence of care, and innovation in care delivery. Patients who have private insurance can access our private facilities outside the confines of the normal public hospital regulations. In this way, for every patient that chooses to use their private insurance, a space is created for their neighbour who does not have private insurance. HDHS has a unique link with our neighbours through our Community Board of Advice. The CBOA provides the community with ongoing involvement in their health service. HDHS is located in a modern, purpose built building, with state of the art facilities and equipment.

Dedication & Compassion - Founded in the long tradition of Catholic health services, the heart of HDHS is the culture of compassionate caring for people who are sick and in need. This is strengthened by the friendly and dedicated local staff and volunteers providing personal attention to your needs. A unique comprehensive health service—a not for profit privately operated service integrated with the tertiary health networks of Western Sydney, while at the same time with its own Board of Management focussing on your local community.

Comprehensive Professional Services – HDHS includes a 127 Bed teaching hospital with 4 Operating Theatres & Day Surgery Unit; Maternity, Paediatric, ICU/CCU, Palliative Care, and Medical & Surgical Services; 24 Hour Emergency Department; After Hours GP Service; Radiology & Pathology Service; Extensive Community & Allied Health Services including Palliative Care; Community Nursing; Counselling; Speech, Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapies; Child & Family Health; Health Improvement; Aboriginal Health; Transitional Aged Care Service.

Our Health Service

As described by Aboriginal artist Vicki Thom, our health service provides inpatient, outpatient and community health care to the people of the Hawkesbury.

The heart and soul of HDHS is the centre point from which our hospital and community health services radiate.

Hawkesbury District Health Service is intrinsically linked to the web of groups and individuals who make up our community and are integral to our being and our service delivery in the Hawkesbury.
