Volunteers

The great value of volunteer work is not only in its contribution to caring for and meeting the needs of others, but also in the rewards that volunteers themselves gain from their involvement in such a worthwhile endeavour. It gives each volunteer the opportunity for personal and skill development, to use their abilities and experience in creative ways, and volunteers are welcomed into a supportive and challenging helping community. Most importantly, volunteer work can be a rich source of satisfaction and meaning.

• Everyone can help someone; we all need to be needed.
• Volunteers represent a significant resource, mobilising community support for the care of patients and their families.
• Volunteers enhance the work of the Hospital by acting as links with the community, through public relations and advocacy, and increase the scope of the paid staff in delivering services.
• Volunteers come from all parts of the community, are all ages, and do all sorts of things. Never underestimate the value of youth, the retired, the poor or diverse culture groups to improve the quality and delivery of service.
