Facilities and Services at HDHS

HDHS is a 127-bed facility that provides public and private healthcare services in Sydney's north-west.

We employ over 600 staff and 50 Visiting Medical Officers, offering 24-hour emergency care, medical, surgical, maternity, neonatal, palliative, intensive and coronary care as well as diagnostics services. We also provide a wide range of community and allied health services.

HDHS is located in a modern, purpose built building, with state of the art facilities and equipment.  As a Teaching Hospital for the University of Notre Dame, our focus is on excellence of care, and innovation in care delivery.

Services Essential to the Smooth Operation of Our Health Service

Medical Records

The HDHS Medical Records Department is responsible for ensuring effective management of health care records and health information to support patient care. The Medical Records Department manages the release of information for ongoing care, and for third parties in legal matters. The Department completes clinical coding of all inpatient care, which is then used for payment and statistical analyses. The Department abides by the State Records Act when storing and when appropriate, destroying  medical records.

Housekeeping and Food Services

The function of the Hotel Services Department is to maintain a hygienic and aesthetically pleasing environment in the Health Service and outlying buildings. Additionally, the department is a support service for Nursing, Medical and Allied Health staff, encompassing the preparation and supply of meals, linen, cleaning, waste and disposal management.

Services are provided include Housekeeping, Catering (for patients and staff cafeteria), Linen Supply and Coffee Shop. The Hotel Services Department ensures high quality cleaning standards are maintained throughout the Health Services; provides all linen users with an appropriate level of linen for their departments; provides a high quality catering service to the Health Service, external clients and Meals on Wheels Service; provides a Coffee Shop environment where the public and staff are catered for during business hours.

All patients meals issued from the Foodservice kitchen are freshly cooked on the premises, as are the meals supplied to Hawkesbury Meals on Wheels service. The Food Service Department has the ability to provide catering service to both internal and external clients.

The Coffee Shop, located adjacent to the Emergency Department entrance, provides a variety of light meals, fruit, drinks, and confectionary. Items such as newspapers and magazines are also available.

Engineering

Our Engineering Services are responsible for the behind the scenes operations to enable the smooth running of the Hydraulic, Electrical, Biomedical Services, Mechanical and Fire systems of the hospital to ensure the habitability and safety to patients, visitors and staff. Engineering Services maintain the grounds and gardens to a pristine standard for the benefit of patients, visitors and staff. Our Engineering Team makes certain that the facility is kept in a good state of repair for the presentation of patients, visitors, staff and dignitaries who visit our health service.
