Nursing Initiatives in Schools (NIIS)
The Nursing Initiative in Schools (NIIS) Program provides year 12 high school students with the opportunity to attend HDHS weekly for work placement throughout the year. Students undertaking nursing studies include two units from the (UWS) Nursing Program to gain invaluable experience working on our wards under the guidance of a Registered Nurse employed by HDHS. Provided with controlled, supervised clinical exposure to the health service, students increase their understanding of their role in the health care setting.
Periodically, HDHS also hosts SWAHS Healthwise NIIS Expos. This affords high school students with the opportunity to discuss health services, resources and strategies available within this facility and the needs of the client and significant others.
Clinical Placements for UWS Nursing Students
Students undertaking Nursing studies at the University of Western Sydney (UWS) gain clinical experience at HDHS under the guidance of a clinical educator. These placements are arranged by the Course co-ordinator at UWS
