Naming of the wards and other significant areas
In early 1996 nominations from the community were called for by HDHS Ltd's Board of Advice for appropriate names for the five hospital wards (two medical, one surgical, one children's and one maternity ward) and a number of other significant areas. The criteria for nomination was based on local identities who had, during their lifetime, made a significant contribution to health or community service.
