HDHS
The Community Board of Advice (CBOA) has been in operation throughout the life of the HDHS contract with WAHS. The Board currently has eleven members comprising seven community representatives, the General Manager, a representative from the HDHS Ltd. Board, a medical staff council representative, the Director of Community Relations and a HDHS staff representative.

The CBOA has been established to ensure the community's participation in the provision of health services in the Hawkesbury region. The CBOA represents the interests of the community to the management and Board of HDHS Ltd. and WAHS.

The CBOA's role is achieved through:

  • Advocacy and Representation
  • Monitoring Quality and Standards
  • Identifying Community Needs
  • Informing the Community
  • Overseeing funds raised, donations and surplus
  • Involvement in planning services and policy development.

HDHS is committed to the training and education of the CBOA within their capacity and as representatives of the community and the Health Service.

The CBOA was formed in July 1996 and will utilise a variety of strategies to achieve its key functions. Some of these include: participation in strategic planning, business and service planning, CBOA representation on the Quality, Ethics and, Planning Committees, networking with other similar boards to see how they identify community needs, participating in the continual improvement of processes to identify community needs, attending community group meetings, liaison with key community groups and ensuring Board Members are known in the community.

The CBOA has been successful in attracting a special Commonwealth grant to undertake a Consumer Participation Project involving consumers of the local government area, including veterans.
